Signs Your Jeld-Wen Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash drops when you open it, or won’t stay up. The block and tackle balance inside the jamb has snapped, or the pivot lock shoe is stripped. Common on single-hung and double-hung Jeld-Wen Builders series after about eight to twelve years in Fort Myers humidity, where the internal spring steel corrodes faster than it would in a drier market.
• Crank handle spins freely or makes a grinding noise. The casement operator gear teeth have stripped, usually because the sash wasn’t fully closed before someone leaned on the crank. We see this on Jeld-Wen Siteline casements that face east, where morning condensation accelerates gear housing corrosion.
• Fog or haze trapped between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. Jeld-Wen uses an aluminum spacer bar with desiccant; once the seal lets Gulf moisture in, you get permanent clouding. The glass still insulates, but eventually the interior gets a milky film you can’t clean.
